Animal Eye Care is a full service veterinary ophthalmology referral practice. Our goal is to not only provide the highest quality medical and surgical care possible, but also to be a referral center that is easy for veterinarians and clients to use.

About our Hospital ...
We are a veterinary referral hospital offering advanced treatment of eye diseases in pets. Your veterinarian has determined that your pet may benefit from an evaluation at our hospital. Because of the need for specialized equipment and advanced training, the cost of our services is likely to be higher than your local veterinarian.

Our Philosophy ...
At Animal Eye Care, we understand that when pet owners are referred to a specialist, they expect the same friendly and efficient care they receive from their veterinarian. To help provide better care for your pet, we offer:

  • Personal Attention - Clients are assured of seeing the same familiar faces every time they visit Animal Eye Care.
  • Efficient examinations - While detailed ophthalmic exams take a while, we realize no one has the time to spend several hours at the referral hospital. We make a conscious effort to thoroughly examine each pet and answer all questions in the shortest period of time. However, we occasionally get behind due to emergencies and do ask for your patience.
  • Same day surgery - All of our surgeries including cataract surgery, do not require the pet to stay overnight. Many of the pets we see are older and we understand the importance of minimizing their time in the hospital.

Animal Eye Care
is a full service practice including:

Phacoemulsification cataract surgery - with one piece intrapolar lens implantation performed using an operating microscope and neuromuscular paralysis.

Laser glaucoma surgery - including intraocular filtering implants and cycloblation procedures.

Retinal and posterior segment surgery - for retinal detachment, retinal biopsy, and tumor removal.

Complete blepharoplasty procedures -for entropion, ectropion, macropalperbral fissure syndrome and ptosis.

Surgical therapy - for refractory keratoconjunctivitis sicca.

Keratoplasties, corneal grafts, and conjunctival grafts - for the treatment of deep ulcers, sequestrums, and corneal degenerations.

Slit lamp biomicroscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy, gonioscopy, applanation tonometry and electrophysiologic testing - testing for accurate diagnosis of ophthalmic disorders.

About Dr. English ...
Dr. English received his DVM from the University of Illinois. He completed an internship at North Carolina State University in 1985, and then entered general practice. He returned to NCSU as a resident in ophthalmology and after successfully completing his board exams in 1989 became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.

To better understand the pathogenesis of inflammatory ocular disorders and help develop new ocular therapeutics, Dr. English completed a doctoral program at NCSU. His research focused on investigating the pathogenesis of feline immunodeficiency virus and helped pioneer studies into the mechanisms by which FIV and other viruses cause ocular and neuroligical disease.

About Dr. Nadelstein ...
Dr. Nadelstein received his DVM from North Carolina State University in 1993. He then completed advanced training in internal medicine and surgery as an intern at Ohio State University, and returned to NCSU as an ophthalmology resident. During his residency, Dr. Nadelstein investigated the efficacy and safety of diode laser therapy for glaucoma in dogs and has continued to investigate novel therapies for this difficult disease. He has advanced training in intraocular surgery including alternative intraocular lens placement and retinopexy surgery. He successfully completed board examination to become a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 1996.
